We spent a wonderful 10 days with son Ryan, his partner Kelly, and our two grandsons in Perth - so special to see how much Liam had grown, and to be there for Travis's birthday. 

Move over Mazzie - Liam's here!

 

Unfortunately the spiral stairs up to our loft bedroom proved the undoing for BoyRob who came away from a fall, with a shoulder injury that was later to prevent us continuing GlobalTrek, at least for 2015.

Happy 4 years old Travis!

We had a fabulous last day with the boys at the aquarium. AQWA in Hillarys, Western Australia is privately owned, includes more than 40 exhibits, and is the 10th largest in the world – it possesses Australia's largest single aquarium tank and walk-through underwater tunnel (known as the Shipwreck Coast), and the unique Touch Pool. AQWA specializes in marine animals that inhabit the 12,000-kilometre long coastline of WA. It holds over 4 million litres of water, home to approx 400 species of marine life, including more than 4,000 fish.

AQWA is broken up into the 5 unique marine regions along WA's coast: The Great Southern, the Shipwreck Coast, the Perth Coast, the Far North, and Marmion Marine Park. Shipwreck Coast aquarium is 40x20 metres and holds 3m litres of seawater. It incorporates a 98 metre underwater acrylic tunnel, the largest in Australia. It contains 3-4 metre grey nurse sharks, 4 metre smooth stingrays, large loggerhead turtles and over 70 other species of rays, octopuses, sharks and fish.

 
 

The facility is host to two premiere feature exhibits:

1) The Coral Reef, one of the largest living coral reef exhibits in the world, featuring living corals and reef fish from Rottnest Island.

2) The Danger Zone: featuring WA's dangerous marine life including stone-fish, sea snake, blue ringed octopus, lion fish, box fish and cone shells.

Other featured animals include leafy sea dragons, moon jellyfish, clown fish, juvenile saltwater crocodiles, starfish, octopuses, cuttlefish, rock lobsters, scorpion-fish, eagle stingrays, sandbar whaler sharks, black tip sharks, Port Jackson sharks, and rescued turtles.
