Day 156: Around Paris - Wed 8 Oct, 2014
Raining constantly, we loaded up with all our wet-weather gear. Caught train in, then red bus at Champs Élysées. Did almost whole loop again to get to our stop at Musee d'Orsay, but good to hear audio again to match names with buildings and re-hear notes.

Joining the queue...
Musee d'Orsay is a brilliant art gallery, sadly not one of the ones who believe in photos to share with the world on social media. Had to be satisfied with (pretty good) book from gift store (and low resolution photos from the internet...) Impressionists were definitely the standout of the day, Monet, Renoir, Sisley, Cezanne, Manet and Degas (although the latter three all had philosophical issues with the movement). Then some post impressionism featuring Van Gogh and Gaugin....

MILLET - The Gleaners
RENOIR Bal du Moulin de la Galette

DEGAS - L'Absinthe
GAUGUIN - Tahitian Women on the Beach

VAN GOGH Self Portrait
Had lunch in cafe on top floor behind the building’s magnificent clock – very atmospheric. Walked out on balcony for views.

Views over Louvre

Views over Montmartre
Spent a relatively full day at this fabulous gallery – our only disappointment was not to find Whistler's Mother
