Day 113: Clermont Ferrand to Roquefort sur Soulzon - Tues 26 Aug

Day 113: Clermont Ferrand to Roquefort sur Soulzon - Tues 26 Aug
Rainy overcast day, no point in going to Puy de Dome lookout as planned. Couldn't park anywhere near black volcanic rock cathedral either, so went on for supermarket supplies, and wifi whilst waiting for Boomers and their 2 lost/ delayed parcels to turn up. Finally on road noon on way to Millau.

On the Massif Central stopped to admire the delicate looking 1885 Garabit Viaduct, railway arch bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel, 400ft over River Truyere.

Weather deteriorating, dark gloomy skies and rain. Climbing mountains, forest and cleared land alternating, altitude signs 1150mts above sea level (good info provided for drivers). Wow, we've seen some impressive bridges to date but the Millau cable-stay viaduct was awe-inspiring - tallest bridge in world with one mast 343m above base (albeit 12th highest bridge deck at 270m above ground).

Onto Roquefort sur Soulzon to camp in free carpark outside tourist info office in shadow of pock-marked cliffs and overlooking pretty valley. Pulled apart cooked chicken for salad dinner with cold white Australian wine. Pretty, mild evening with superb view.
